MY MOM, MY DAD, MY LIFE

Hands that were strong but wrinkled,

Doing work that never got done,

Hair, that had lost its beauty

By too many hours in the sun

Eyes, that showed disappointment;

And there was quite a lot in her life!

She was the foundation I leaned on

My Mommy, my Mommy, my life…

Everyday was uphill

Dad climbed but never reached the top,

He was weak and easily discouraged,

Mom’s smiles didn’t let him stop

Voice that was weary but tender

A Saint in a dress made of gingham

My Mommy, my Mommy, my life

Eleven children born so early

But three died when they were young

Dad lost control of his mind and his soul

But Mom’s faith carried him through

Now that they have crossed that river

Lord, you know what they are worth

Give them that mansion up yonder

Cause they have been thru hell here on earth

Lord give them my portion of heaven

If I have earned any here in this life

Cause God, I believe they deserve it;

My Mommy, my Daddy, my life!

Some of the words are from a song written by Marty Robbins. I have modified the words on behalf of my Mom and Dad, for it is a “true” depiction of their lives whilst on earth!
