BEMOANING MY FRIEND
Life is an uphill battle for you
I’m sure you know it is true,
So many battles for so few years
So much sorrows, so many tears

Please know that I feel your pain
For my life has been much the same,
I can’t say I know how you feel
But for you, I pray each night I kneel

Impatient spirits may fret and fume
With Christ our Lord, you shall bloom
Be not distracted by doubts and fears
Nor allow taunting to howl in your ears

The evening wolf infuriated by a day of hunger
Is fiercer and more ravenous to devour,
O Thou who has laid down Thy life for me
Hold my friend, close to Thee!

In this mortal world there are many wolves in sheep’s clothing. How voracious and greedy they are, swallowing up all suggestions of comfort, and remaining as hungry as before? Darkness is their element, deceit is their character, destruction is their end, but we are most in danger from them when they wear the sheep’s skin. Be steadfast in faith; for faith rides the black horse, conquering and trampling down carnal reasons and fleshly sense, and chanting notes of victory amid the thickest of the fray!
