INTREPID HEART

Dedicated to Dolly Ali

No other person in my life
Not even the person that was my wife,
Not even my children that I bared my soul to
Were or are, graceful to me, as you

You and God are my strength in this life I lead
Even at times, when my broken heart bleeds
You are my constant shelter in the storm
Though apart, thoughts of you keep me warm

Standing with me in all of my debacles
Phalanx, in all my battles
When discouraged by others, family or friend
You stood with me, to the very end

You were mine eyes when I could not see
When the troubles of life, surrounded me
You were my feet when I could not walk
You were always there, when I needed to talk

Through cloudy days and dark nights
God is forever, our shining light
We know that He is always there for us
Forever in Him, we must always trust

Intrepid heart,” May, the Lord bless you today!
And increase His blessings each and every day,
For when this, my sojourner’s life is over and done
Save for God first, with you, my battles I won!

Though this poem is written about a specific person, it should be noted that it carries with it a definitive “nexus” to a few people, people who God chose to be there for me, when not too long ago, adversaries and adversities were stealing apace. I wrote in a previous poem titled “Broken Reed” that “friends and family are like broken reeds, often unwilling to help when they can, and willing when they can’t!” But, let it be known, that my God of providence who has to keep watch on the Sparrow, He also keeps watch over me!
