ANOTHER SOLDIER DIES

To our soldiers and the families of our lost and wounded soldiers
This is the grim reality of pre-emptive strike on Iraq
Where is our conscience, could we ever bring them back?
The braggadocio attitude of "bring them on" is killing our GI's
Why can't America awake and ask the question "why"?

Our ideology is far different than the people in the Middle East
We cannot change them even if we kill and maim them as a beast,
Democracy is a desire that materializes with a will from the soul
We cannot export it by military might, even if we're bold

To each, his own is what life is about
And not hypocrisy, such as this democracy that we tout,
We want not others to tell us how to live and what to do
Yet we invade Iraq with manipulated intelligence that was not true

The people's plight is worse than that of Saddam's regime
They are suffering because of our lies and scheme,
Because of our massive thirst for oil
Our soldiers are dying and suffering on this foreign soil

Our machismo is why we now live in treacherous fear
While the families of the deceased soldiers are filled with tears,
Why do we allow this folly to fall on our nation?
Is this the price of sin and how long will be our retribution?

"I am aware that this is a very contentious subject. However, taking a line from a movie is my rationale for this poem; 'The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men and women to do nothing.' I do it through my expression of words, for the 'pen' is mightier than the sword."
